Queer Pin@y Conference 2009

at UCLA

As the Co-Chairs of Queer Pin@y Conference 2009 (pronounced Queer Pinay/Pinoy Conference), we – Jason Tengco and Ruth Mendez – would like to invite you to QPC 2009 at UCLA hosted by Samahang Pilipino on Saturday, November 21!
With this year being the 10 year anniversary since the first QPC in 1999 founded at UCLA titled “On the Verge,” we believe it is crucial to incorporate the original outcomes of QPC 1999 and to see how far we as a queer pin@y community have come since then. Therefore, we are very excited to announce the theme for QPC 2009: “Bring It Back.”
The theme “Bring It Back” has a double meaning. The first is to “bring the conference back” to its origins and roots and to parallel the topics that QPC 1999 addressed. The second meaning of the theme calls participants to action in order to “bring back the knowledge” we learn from the conference to implement queer consciousness in our communities, and more tangibly the respective spaces that conference participants are involved in.
Lastly, with November also being the 1 year anniversary since the passage of Proposition 8 in California, QPC seeks not only to educate and empower its participants surrounding marriage equality, but strives for them to see the queer movement as one that is beyond ourselves in solidarity with all communities. Thus, we invite and warmly welcome people of all backgrounds.
We hope to see you there!
In solidarity,
Jason Tengco and Ruth Mendez
